moving forward…looking back was a dance based piece inspired by the symbol of the Sankofa from the Akan tribe of Ghana: a mythic bird that flies forward while looking backward with an egg (symbolizing the future) in its mouth. Sankofa reminds us that we must go back to nature, to our roots, to our ancestors, in order to move forward.
